Buda is an authentic goldfields villa house and garden located in Castlemaine Central Victoria. Named after Budapest by its Hungarian owner, Ernest Leviny, it was home to the creative Leviny family for 118 years and houses their significant intact collection of furniture, art works and personal belongings.
Visit the Garfield Water Wheel historical site in Chewton, Victoria and explore the ruins and remnants of the Garfield Company Mine. The massive stone supports which still remain at the site once supported an enormous water wheel with a diameter of 22 metres. Upon its construction the Garfield Water Wheel was hailed as the largest in the southern hemisphere! The water wheel was used between 1887 and 1903 to power the stamp battery for the mine.
Paintings, sculpture & other works by Australian artists featured in an art deco gallery. The beautiful art deco building, dating from 1931 with several extensions since then, is a work of art itself, with purpose-built galleries. The Gallery and Museum is fully accredited by Museums Australia. It is governed by private trustees and managed by a Board elected by subscribers. State and local government support is provided, and the Gallery has a strong tradition of support from benefactors.
